EOS 600D for a newbie snapper?

Im after a decent camera for taking pics as a hobby, and like the look of a Canon EOS 600D.

is this camera decent? i dont know a lot about cameras other than you take pictures with them, and some are better than others at doing that.

im not looking for something ultra good, just something thats a lot better than my samsung compact point and shoot one thats about 5 years old.


is there any other camera so consider other than the 600D? or will this do everything I want?

Don't discount the 1100D or the Nikon 3100, best to go to a decent shop and handle them and see which ones you prefer. If you have big hands you might want to consider a s/h 40D or 50D instead!!!

I think the Nikon D5100 is the 600D's direct rival. It seems the Canon beats it on Video and quick menu changes, but the D5100 just tips it on image quality and low light noise.
I personally am looking at the D5100 especially as it is only £329 at HDEW with 3yr warranty. £400 in the shops I think.

ah ok, i had not seen those ones.

have pretty small hands too, so some might be a bit to big for my hands.

will have a look in some shops and get a feel for them

Also a good idea to see which you prefer using, some people just 'click' with one setup.

Personally, I'd stick with the 'big two' of Canon or Nikon: lots of options for lenses & accessories both new and used

No one has really said it yet but every dslr made in the last few years is capable of awesome photos

I was disappointed with the 600d's "live view" operation via the flip out screen, the mirror flip up+focusing took forever, my Fuji HS30 EXR was far faster

Your Fuji has a depth of field measured in furlongs not feet or inches
