Hi guys
Ive been offered a nearly new ( hardly used was the term )Nikon 401. Otherwise known as the 4004 i believe.
The body comes with 2 lenses...A Nikon 35-70, and a Sigma 70-210 + several rolls of film, a few filters, tripod and carry bag. Some might say the whole caboodle.
Been looking at a few reviews which seem to say - good solid workhorse, good intro into auto SLR.
Yhe thing is that it's a work mate who i trust and he's said a few hundred quid for the lot!
First i thought bargain! but know i am of the opinion that he might be asking £50 odd too much.
Any ideas? not only on the price but as an intro/learner for real photography?
Also i think i could use the lenses on a DSLR in the future although i realise they are entry level glass.
Thanks for any thoughts

Some happy owners here:

It seems to have been launched in 1991. However, a 'few hundred quid for the lot' seems WAY too much. I picked up a Nikon F60 with two lenses for £80!

The world is full of film SLRs: offer him a few £10s for the lenses if you really want them, but personally I'd go for a much more modern camera - in fact the F60 is an excellent first SLR.

Have a hunt on eBay and see what you find - eg:

I would.
I used to have a F401s which sold nearly two years ago with similar lenes on ebay for only £120.
Now have a Nikon F80, much more fun. The new Nikons are really good and well built, IMHO
