What camera?

Want to get my first decent camera now, mainly for getting photos of my cars and cars racing (go to a track every week).
I am willing to spend up to £400, any recommendations?

Also wanting a camera for in my car to use at track days mainly, is go pro the best? Willing to spend up to £300 on that too

For the general camera for motorsport etc I'd suggest an EOS XX0D Canon DSLR with the 55-250 lens - you may need to go second hand to get that for under £400, but a DSLR will be best for motorsport.

GoPro is pretty much the standard for in car/track day stuff, personally I think the silver is the sweetspot in terms of price/features. If you aren't too fussed about the wifi performance and smaller case, you may be able to get an offer on the outgoing model (Hero 3, as opposed to Hero 3+ the new one).

Pretty much any modern DSLR is plenty capable of giving you great results. As has been suggested a decent zoom lens would be useful for motorsport, 55-200 or 70-300.

Nikon D3200, D5100, D5200, D7000 all worth looking at - not sure on current prices for each. I use a D5100 and have been very pleased with it over the 18 months I have had it.

Equivalent Canons would probably be 550D through to 650D.

Much as I love my GoPro there's some decent alternatives out there now, The Drift HD, Contour roam, Sony Action Cam and a few others are also getting good reviews. Bear in mind you'll want to edit your videos so may need to buy some software (Cyberlink PowerDirector is good) and upgrade your computer with some more storage space.
