The alternative 'recommend me a camera' thread
Discussion
Afternoon chaps.
I bought the mini-Gnu (then three and a half) a Canon Powershot G2 off eBay last Christmas, and she had a lot of use out of it. Sadly, it has recently clicked it's last - she dropped it accidentally and now it won't turn on, and makes a terminal-sounding rattle. Of course I knew it'd break eventually, which is why I bought her a £20 camera - rather a proper camera than some V-tech nonsense, and rather she broke that than my DSLR, which she had been using up until then.
I liked the G2, but the part that has broken is the extending lens - small children are clumsy things, and she was forever banging it on stuff. I think it's the motor for extending it and retracting it that has come loose - so I don't want to get another one. It looks like all the cheap G series ones have an extending lens though.
So, my question is, what small camera that can be bought on eBay for less than £40 would you recommend. It will be used by a 4 and a half year old who is careful but, at the end of the day, only 4. The only other requirement is that is must have a proper optical finder because she refuses to frame via the screen on the back.
Any input much appreciated.
