Anyone making any plans for capturing this? I quite like the idea of giving it a bash - shift works means I'll be awake around the times it's most visible, but I'm not 100% certain on the best kit and approach as I've done very little astrophotography.
If memory serves from various guides I've read I think the standard formula is max ISO (think it's 1600 on my 400D), no more than 30 second exposure and wide open. Focus to infinity and cable shutter release and job jobbed, right?
Kit wise I'm of two minds - wide angle or 50mm prime. My Tokina 11-16mm is reasonably fast but I suspect that unless something fairly spectacular happens any trail will appear tiny, so I was thinking the 50mm prime might be the way ahead? I don't have much more reach than that in my kit bag and certainly nothing faster.
