Intervalometer

[Disastrous]

Morning all.

Hoping one of you can recommend me an intervalometer. It doesn't need to be fancy in the sense that all I need it to be able to do is connect to a camera and make it take a picture an adjustable number of seconds apart. I don't mind if it's cabled or wireless really.

The camera is a 60D and it's to control a timelapse of a city intersection.

The one proviso is that it is available in a shop or can be delivered by tomorrow as it's for a client who has dropped this on me at the last minute! I've not really done timelapses before so expecting the worst-today will be a reading day!

Happy to spend whatever needs spending but the cheaper the better.

Thanks Rob - browse of the feature list seems to suggest that it might do the trick. Do you happen to know what intervals you can set with it?

Some of the third party remotes can do this as well. Not sure where you can pick these up on the high street but here's one on Amazon.

I'm not sure if the Canon Remote Capture software that comes with the camera can do this as well

I'm using one of the cheap ones from Amazon on my 5D, works perfectly.

Have a look at Triggetrap as well, http://triggertrap.com/products/triggertrap-mobile... You'll need a phone to run the app, and thats thethered to the camera

I've used the EOS Utility software that came with my T2i (550D) to take time-lapse before, hook it up to the laptop and the pictures are saved to the computer as well. Presumably it would be the same for the 60D

It most probably would but I'll be outside on a (probably wet) scottish night so looking for something smaller that I can hide under a brolley...

ML seems ideal but reading a bit more I'm nervous of my firmware updating skills. The cheap amazon effects look fine but not sure they'll arrive in good time.

Magic lantern on mine seems to have intervalometer with 1 second steps up to about 15 seconds then 2 seconds steps to 20s then 5 second steps to 1 minute where it goes to 10s steps, 15s steps, then 1 minute steps at 5 minutes intervals etc. finally going to hour steps up to 8hour intervals there's also "take pictures like crazy" which I assume is as fast as the camera will allow. you can set to stop in multiples of 100 up to 5000 shots and have a delayed start.

The ML firmware update is quite easy iirc and as I understand it it more a setting change than a firmware update, Ie set it to try and boot from the card first, The actual software sits on the card and using a card without it the camera just boots up with the regular canon software

Another vote for magic lantern. The amount of other features it opens up is more than worth it too.
Firmware update is easy, just make sure your battery is charged. I've been using it for a couple of years now without any issues.
Great for video too.

That's perfect actually, and it's mainly used for video so sounds like it will be worth it for that alone. The live sound monitoring would be nice!

As a pro on a job though I would make sure your back up camera is working fully before you go hacking firmware right before a paying job. Any corruption on your card or the download could brick your camera.
It's a brave man who does it on their only camera!

Funnily enough, I've just bottled it. Downloaded the files and was reading through the instructions and there were too many "This will void your warranty! You may wreck your camera" warnings for me to risk it. Once I get a new camera maybe…

In the meantime, I'll look at the app/go shopping…!
