Decided it's high time I bought a digital video camera, could of had loads of fun with it at BTaP
Can anyone give a recomendation for a decent, easy to use and small digital video jobbie. Would like a reasonable storage capacity and to be able to use it in the car and for a bit of motorsport.

Cheers,

Must be suitable for use by someone who is techno phobic, any more than two buttons and I'm likely to get confused

After taking some advice from the Photography Forum, I just got myself a JVC mini DV Camcorder. Cost £345.00 from Dixons reduced from about £600.00. Does everything I want it to.

You might be better posting on a motorsport forum, the guys in the Caterham accademy this year have generated some stunning footage

They're good ones to ask about camera mounts, bullet cams etc etc

Hmmm... just my two penn'arth....

JVC's DV kit tends not to be as good as the competition.... they can suffer from Head Clog.

Canon and Sony DV stuff tends to be more reliable.

Depending on your budget, go for 3-CCD kit if you can... the quality improvement over single CCD is vast.

www.b-hague.co.uk/camera%20supports%20systems.htm

the camera mount we've used is the single suction cup version for about £70-80.

can be used internal and external. the cup is so strong it'll take your windscreen out before it comes off.

been testing mine on the boot on my MGTF with a cam and its rock solid - although i still put straps on for peace of mind.

A ccd actually does the recording - a 3ccd device will have one ccd for each of the main colours (red, green, blue). Picture is sharper and more natural, depending on the size of the ccd's...

By the way Panasonic's GS400 is supposed to be quite good as well...

CCD is to the camera what a retina is to your eye.

However, the most important part of any camera is the lens. No matter how good the camera is, if its a rubbish lens, your pictures will be rubbish.
