The most expensive photo I've ever taken

I left my usual dog setup (5D mk3 with Canon 8-15 fisheye and Nissin Ring flash) on a stty tripod on a high chair for two sec preparing for a group christmas photo and of course one of the dogs decided to investigate what's that thing that I've left. Camera landed on concrete from about a meter height. Front element has got plenty of scratches, zoom is locked and doesn't work, autofocus doesn't work, lens is generally f...ed Luckily it looks like it took most of the hit and there's no damage to the 5d.

I have insurance with Photoguard, I think over £550 a year so maybe finally I'll get some of it back.
Does anyone of you know do I need to send it for repairs and they cover the cost or is it just replacement for new? It's too late and the claim line is closed so I will find out in the morning.

Also, just out of curiosity - I never bothered to register with Canon Professional Services, does it make any difference in case of repair being needed? (faster, cheaper, loan lens etc)

CPS is very good. Fixed cost repairs, guaranteed turn around time depending on your membership level and loan kit if the repair is going to take longer than that guaranteed period.

As said CPS are very good.

Speak to your insurer, they might have a deal with a repairer, if not give Canon Elstree a bell, [phone] (sorry for the international formatting, it's a copy from my phone book).

Thanks, but I'm ordering a new one from Digitalrev. £899 all in so I'd rather have a new one than repaired.

Hmm.

On the other hand you would get a repair that had been hand calibrated and setting set by a human aided by its computer. Sort of like a bespoke build.
