I'm thinking about a better lens for UWA use. I've got a Canon 17-40 f/4 which is pretty decent but needs a lot of correcting, especially on vertical distortion, when shooting architecture at the wide end.
Two contenders are the Canon 24mm TS/E which, when corrected in camera, would probably give nearly as wide a result as the 17-40 does after what I end up losing in vertical correction pp. Other than that there's the Zeiss 21mm f/2.8 which can be bought with a Canon mount and looks tempting. Manual only but that's not a big deal as I tend to use live view for wide shots anyway. Anyone got any other thoughts?

The Zeiss will be like the 17-40 when tilted up, converging verticals, thats not a fault of the lens as such. It will have more resolution than the 17-40 but tbh for architecture a shift lens is da bomb. 24tse is pretty good quality ( the corners drop off when at max shift). Remember you can also use the shift to stitch for 17mm ( 3 shots) or a wide 14mm.

Thanks. Do you know whether the 24mm TS/E can be fitted with a Lee filter holder to take grads etc? (I had also considered the Canon 17mm TS/E but I've read that that lens can't take filters due to the shape of the front element which rules it out for me)24tse is pretty good quality ( the corners drop off when at max shift). Fujifilm Finepix s4200. I'd spotted it in Asda, and liked the large optical zoom, and the fact that it had a screen/viewfinder option . I don't like the screen option - in sunlight it's difficult to see what/where you are taking, and it means get goggles out ,and by then shot is lost. Swimbo noticed me looking at it, but reluctant to spend, as I've still got a few rolls of Advantix film for my Canon Zeus, although I must admit,the photo quality is dropping off as the films age .She bought it. Now trying to take myself back a lot of years to the days when I had cameras with variable speeds/ apertures etc, or should I just set it on auto , set the zoom and shoot.
