Firmware Update 650d? Lens adapter for Olympus Zuiko

Morning folks.
Bought a 650d recently. Good bit of kit. No problems but bought it for shooting video.
The lens that came with it is a bit 'wobbly' when focusing, the Canon 18-55mm, so thought I'd see about using some of my Olympus Zuiko lenses that I've had for years.
The 'L' lens I have is massive, which I'm not keen on when shooting video. Hence the brainwave of sorts.
Bought a lens adapter from Amazon, which eventually turned up.
Looks a well made bit of kit, but as soon as I put it on the body and turn the camera on it says I must perform a Firmware upgrade.
Started to do this and not the most straight forward thing I've ever done. Youtube has videos that explain how to do it as not my strong point.
Anyway, will this then allow me to use the adapter does anyone know?
Or has it been a waste of time and money?
Of course I should just do the Firmware thing and see, but started looking at Magic Lantern for the 650d as well.
I'm not keen on spending hours of my time farting about and as I see it causing more problems potentially than I had to start with.
Any experiences welcome. Thanks.

Charlie - I am by no means an expert but I think if the issue is maintaining autofocus while shooting video you'd be best with a Canon STM lens eg something like this. I'm sure your Zuiko lenses are nice but not sure they'd work better for video focussing (if that's your only concern!).Bought a 650d recently. Good bit of kit. Perhaps the camera was simply telling you it needed a firmware update

What type of adaptor did you get, one with autofocus sensing chip? The programmable EMF chip versions are rather good...

Sorry I should have said I want to manually focus when videoing, and nice and smooth.
The Canon A/F is a good bit of kit, but tends to hunt a bit.
So switch off A/F function but the lens is then a bit wobbly at the end barrel, which spoils things.
Thought I'd have a go with best of both worlds for videoing. Zuiko lens is really smooth to focus.
The adapter I bought is from Amazon and has a focus confirm chip, as that was the only one available for 650d from UK source.
Firmware update only comes up when I put adapter over end of camera. Take it off and update prompt goes away.
Pain in the passage really. There is always 'just one more thing' you have to do and not used it yet.
I'd be more than happy using a Canon Manual Focus lens and did see a 28-70mm (I think) for sale in a charity shop yesterday.
Getting a bit fed up with it. Just want to do some creative work, not fart about for weeks!

Given up pratting about with firmware upgrades, as if it ain't broke, don't install a firmware upgrade fix it.
Used the 'L' lens and find manual focusing is a lot easier than than the 'kit' lens.
What a great bit of kit the 650d is to use in Manual when taking still images.
So might be I keep the 1ds for certain work and the 650d for other stuff. Good to have a back up body as well.
Will look again at the adapter situation when I have the patience perhaps, as it is a great idea.
