seriously considering a D7100

I've recently found myself yearning for a Nikon D7100 as a replacement for my D80 which now has aged considerably since I bought it new. I'm not even sure how long ago that was, but I do know it was the latest from Nikon at the time. Having spent some time now searching online for the best deals at the moment, I came across this http://www.eglobaldigitalstore.co.uk/nikon-d7100-b... which looks exceptional. Can anyone enlighten me on whether there is a catch or if you know of another supplier who could at least match it?
Also, would my current lenses do the D7100 any justice? I have a AF-S DX ED 18-55mm 3.5-5.6GII and a 70-300mm 4-5.6G which doesn't actually have DX stamped on it. The 70-300mm also has a minor scratch on the front lens now, can this be polished out?

I always buy from digitalrev.com, check the price there. I just ordered a lens for £900, ordered on Fri late, it's on its way to Heathrow already

Thank you for NOT being arsy! To be honest, for some reason unbeknown to me, I really did not think of searching for a review of the company but do review products before I buy. Why on earth is that?!! O.K, lesson learnt and appreciated Thank you.

Hi,

I upgraded from a d40 to a d7000 around two years ago. I too had the sale two lenses you have, they both worked great.
The 70-300 is a fx compatible lens so will work great on your dx camera.

Shopping, camerapricebuster.com is a good Price comparison website.

As for your scratch, depends how deep, it may need to be serviced by Nikon, does it show up in the photos? I would buy some uv filters sharpish as they protect the glass and are cheap and quick to replace!

They're offering their own 24 month warranty, which means no manufacturer's warranty, which means, if they go bust...no warranty.

So it's a grey import, isn't it?

They don't say if they're shipping from outside the UK. If they are, you could be hit with duty and VAT.

Thanks for your input people. The scratch on my lens looks like one of those you get on ceramic that comes of with a special rubber but I dare not touch it! It doesn't appear to show up in photos as far as I can tell.
Looking through the DigitalRev website suggests they are sending goods from Hong Kong and say the buyer is responsible for import duties etc. The reviews for the company are excellent and I'm aware there are a number of people on this forum who buy from them, so what's the score there then? Has anyone paid more than the price on the website? They also suggest they cover the warranty so the same must apply if they fold as a company?

How much are you saving with these imports? Currently Nikon UK are doing £100 cash back on the D7100. Buy somewhere like Fixation or Grays and you'll be paying less than a ton extra for some peace of mind.

I was in the same boat as you - replaced my 6 year old D80 with a 2nd hand D300 last month for less than half the price of a new D7100. Looked at the D7100, but found the body too small for my hands, and it felt plasticky. D300 is built like a tank, controls are well positioned, it has accurate and consistent metering (compared with D80), and autofocus is superb. Okay, it has 'only' 12mp, but how many do you really need? I bought from MPB with a six month guarantee. Worth considering imo.

Yeah, Digitalrev are shipping from HK but they are not hiding it like most other online shops.

As for overall experience? I've ordered this on Fri, just received it, as always no import duties and delivery with DHL, PROPER delivery company with phone updates and contact, not Yodel etc

I used EGlobal earlier this year to buy a Fuji X20, they were considerably cheaper than anyone else.

At the time they covered duty and VAT, this changed to buyer being responsible in December. The change is prominent on their homepage and T's and C's. Was considering using them for a Canon 1Dx, this and warranty complications will probably make me look elsewhere.

The camera arrived from Hong Kong 2 days after being ordered.

The D7100 is a good camera, but rather than spending your money buying another DX camera, I think good full frame lenses would benefit your picture quality more than a newer camera.
The D80 hasn't been made for some time and yours may be near the end of its life (depending on how much you abuse it) as well, so buying a new camera might be your only option.
