Automatic renumbering

Just copied loads of negs and slides to my PC, into separate files only because I copied from a number of albums etc.

Due the numbering system, and my unfamiliarity with the scanner, some of the files have the same IMG numbers, ie there is an IMG.100 in separate files, but of different pictures.

What I want to do is pull JPEG's from some files into a separate folder, obviously it will not save duplicate numbers, short of renaming them first before putting them into the new folder, is there any software which will re number a bunch of JPEG's.

So could I just open one folder, and re number for example from 100 upwards, just I would ask, my initial thought is I have screwed up, and will have to do it manually.

Yes there are programs to do that.
Just google file renamer and rename each folder with a unique block of numbers. Then you can just move them around as you please into new folders.

Thanks for info, maybe it was the way I explained it, what I need to do is rename the IMG numbers, anyway will have a google aa you suggest, maybe I will find something.

That's what it will do.
Just rename the contents of each folder first before you move any files.
IMG doesn't matter, you can call the files whatever you want as long as they are unique names.
Those programs will rename files with whatever number series you want.

Will add 1_ to all filenames. Go into the right folder first, though, because you don't want to add 1_ to **everything** !

Why not just use windows to rename them for you? (assumption here that by stating 'PC' you are using a windows machine)

Just go to the folder, hit contol-A to select all, right click the first file, select rename, name as something you want (say 100.jpg) and hit return, all the other files will then be renamed with 100(1).jpg, 100(2).jpg etc.

Repeat for other folders using a different file name (200.jpg etc) and away you go.

Or have I missed something?

I wouldn't use the windows method because I'd hate to have unusual characters, such as parenthesis, in a file name.

Altered mine to B1S2-(1), then B1S2-(2) so on a so forth.

As these were copied from slide boxs, it just tells me B1S2 means Box 1, Side 2, (slide 1).

This obviously suits me, not all.

Found download for irfanview, might be worth a shufty.
