Would like to rent for a few days before I buy so I can decide which I want.

Since there is now a £500-600 gap between them renting seems worth it.

Ive heard the 300D doesnt cut it when compared to even the now ageing (slightly) D70, so id guess the 20D is far, far superior.

Sorry to hijack here chaps, but a little question, if I may?

Emma already has an EOS300 (SLR) with about 5 lenses, all AF, all Canon OEM.

Would these be compatible with the 300D?

Sorry again,
Greg

Greg,

You shouldn't have a problem.

Just remember that on a digital body the focal length is multiplied by approx 1.6 ish.

I have rented equipment from Calumet in the past.

I'm not sure whether or not they rent out these particular models as I do not have an up-to-date rental guide, but if you call them or visit their web site I'm sure they will let you know.

Visit them at www.calumetphoto.com or tel 08706 030303

I'm not sure where you are based, but they have branches in Aberdeen, Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and four branches in London.

Check out www.dpreview.com for photographic reviews, dunno for sure, but they are probably both on there, likely to be covered with 12page+ reviews each.

Canon actually give DPreview cameras to test pre-production, its the best site I know of etc...

Definately THE best place to check out digital cameras. You can even download high res. images to inspect and compare with the competition.

Thanks for the advice but I have read ever review going (trust me! ).

Final decider is to rent for a trial over a few days.

I really want to 20, but for £600 extra?

Dusty,

I just bought the 20D, and all I can say is trust me, it's well worth the extra

Better auto focusing and more control. A friend has a 300D. Even though it's very nice, and I would have been more than happy with it, I have a 10D. Once you use a 10/20D then a 300D you'll be going :- 'How to I set this? Where's that control?'.

It may be you can change most things but the wheels and buttons are missing.

For me it was certainly worth the extra, 5fps particularly, the sheer speed of operation, b&w mode & associated filters/ toning is very good (especially if like me you are an idiot when it comes to farting around with images on the PC after). General adjustability of the camera is superb, and the 9 point AF is a big improvement. also the flash actually seems to be worth using as fill in (compared to my friends 10D which wasn't too good.)

these things may or may not be worth the extra to you - Iguess it very much depends on what you want to use the camera for really.

(I dont take anything the wrong way )

I have non Digital EOS300 at the moment and studying the extensive 20D review in Photography monthly it didnt seem to have any more features (other than the digital bits obviously).

The only differences i can see between the 20D and the 300D are:

- 3Mega Pixels extra
- 2 extra focusing windows
- light metering options
- 5 fps for 23 frames, (rather than 2.5fps for 4frames on the 300D)

and thats about all I could see different.
What else is there?

What a con this guy on ebay is. Its a well known download available from the web with a quick google search. Doesn't cost a penny. Done it myself, has got some very good functions.

Here's the link to the download for the 300D:
