That depends entirely on the format (storage) of the picture. If it's something like .jpg it's very unlikely that anything can be recovered, if it's a paint/retouch package's "native" format then it may be layered and easily recovered.

Dear all, wonder if you can help me , is it possible to 'uncover' a solid piece of a a blocked out picture? Not sure if explained correctly - but essentially I need to uncover a part of a picture that is obscured by a solid black square?
Thanks in advance for any help
What is the extension? .bmp? .jpg? .tif? If it's any of those, then no.

I think we all know he has got a picture of someone's missus with no clothes on and wants to remove the censorship squares smile

Are you talking like the black bars on a redacted document?
If so, no. Black pixels are black pixels with nothing underneath.
The only way there would be something underneath is if it was a layered file like a photoshop file. In which case you probably wouldn't be asking this question.

Not true. A tif file can contain layers.

Does the OP even have the right to "remove" the square. Remember in most cases the copyright to any photograph remains with the photographer.

Not sure of the format - it is a video- Simpo you are on the right lines they are censorship squares

Aww, now we want to know what you think is under the black squares....
Still no chance of uncovering it though.
