A long time ago the wide panel on my 430EX II fell out - I'm not sure how or why - and the clear plastic screen came away from the small black bracket with the spring. The flash was still fully functional and so I wasn't too bothered. However, now I'm having so major problems with the flash gun.

When I turn the 430EX II on, it flashes ETTL and then the screen goes blank. If I press the shutter button or Pilot on the unit, it will flash ETTL again and then go back to blank. The flash gun never fires and I cannot access or change any of the settings.

Some research revealed that the flash is meant to do this and does so when the wide panel is fully extended and just to put it back in. The obvious problem is the flash gun doesn't have one any more. I put the black bracket back in securely but it didn't fix the problem.

Any ideas chaps? I need it for a shoot next week. frown

I'm afraid I can't help with the issue, but I'm based in Berkshire if you want to borrow a 430 (as you're familiar with that flash already)?

And if your gig happens to be up here I've got a 430exii and 550ex you are welcome to use.

Thank you chaps - very kind. Unfortunately you are both rather far away from me so I'm just going to have to try and fix this. I've emailed Canon. Worse comes to worst I'll have to just use my softbox over the top of my ring flash, but I have no control over power.

I'm going to have to figure out how to fix it I think.

Let me know if you don't get it sorted by end of day tomorrow. Worst comes to worst, I can post the flash out to you recorded delivery on Saturday.

Thank you mate I appreciate that - you can always rely on the PHers to come through for you. The shoot is indoors so I might just have to lug some studio lighting there; I think I'll be able to get by until I can fix it.
