Just picked up my ML-L3 Remote Control from the Post Office. £15. It sends a infra-red beam to the Camera which then takes a picture.

There are a bazillion options in the camera for whether it focuses then, focuses before, doesn't focus at all but retains manual settings, switches off remote operations after, switches them to another mode after or plain leaves them where they are.

As you can see - I don't know how to use any of them!

Just after this, my very first test shot, the camera finally ran out of charge and gave up. Its recharging now. Sloooowwwly.

Fifteen quids worth of pure gadget happiness....

Focusing *before* is probably the best option

I don't remember seeing all those options - I just set the dial to 'remote' and press the tit.

Anyway, if you think that thing has options, try a speedlight!

LOL. That's a funny picture. Just love your(?) ditzy expression.

Just FYI for D70 owners - if you have a D70 (or any IR-released camera body for that matter) and a PDA running a Palm OS that has a built-in IR port, there is software out there that you can install in your palm that can trigger the D70 release. I'm using it and it works quite well.
