Your thoughts please..

Shot today with Mrs S' Fuji S3500 then tinkered with PS..

I'm not 100% sure whether I like it or not...

What you probably don't like is the ivy being out of focus. A bit more contrast in the monochrome area would have been nice, too. Having said that I do like it.

It's an interesting subject but I don't think the composition works. The leaves being out of focus bother me and the digger needs crisping up too. It looks quite white - did you play about in Channels?

I never take pictures with spot colour in mind, it's something that a few pictures just lend themselves too IMHO.

But you've found an interesting scene - take some more, and if the leaves don't work, concentrate on a nice b/w digger

All i did was just desaturate and do the spot colour.. I didn't actually take the shot with spot colour in mind..

I'll have a play about with the image later and see if I can come up with anything..

btw, the digger is 10 paces away from the door of the workshop where the dragster is being built, so I'm there quite often..

cheers for the feedback,

The coloured section should be the focal point of a spot colour image in my eyes, so the ivy being out of focus really doesn't help!

The muddy Caterpillar makes a great subject though.

Me again..

Whilst trawling thru some old shots I find this little piccy...

Taken two years ago @ the Auto Italia day @ Stanford Hall... When we've been at the show we always go for a walk around the car park, as, invariably, there are some rather nice motors... quite a suprise to see the T350...

that doesn't look real there, the wheels are reflecting the grass which doesn't exist making it almost looks like it's floating rather than sitting down.

Still, I can't do spot colour as I don't the patience

Mrs S found a new technique for spot colour, not too tricky.. (getting it to look good however is another matter, one I haven't got anywhere near mastering!)

Incidently, hello how are you doing?

Is this new technique "new" The way I tried it was to select the area I wanted to keep coloured, promoted it to a layer and grey-scaled the background. Cheap and easy, but it was the getting a decent selection that had me.

Not three bad at all fella, me and the good Mrs S are doing well.. (starting to plan PF'05 with Matt as well.. he he he... there are plans!)

Try reversing your technique slightly...

Select all,
copy,
paste
Desaturate (just that layer)
Use eraser tool to put colour back into the spot..

Taa daa..

We've been here before! Skip the select all, copy and paste, you only need the last two steps.
(I went to a Polytechnic )
