Not sure if that's the right term to describe what I'm after or not...

I picked up my EOS M yesterday and it's ideal for holidays etc but with the zoom lens attached, any pouches make it pretty un-pocketable.

What I have in mind is literally, a sort of microfibre, drawstring bag thing, a bit like what you used to get with personal CD players in the 90's. Do you know the kind of thing I mean?

It would give any impact protection but would protect from scuffs and scratches in a bag or jacket pocket, and wouldn't make the thing any bigger than it already is.

I have various 'camera bags' but nothing really suitable for just throwing it with a bunch of clothes in a rucksack or so.

Does such a thing exist?

There are plenty of neoprene drawstring pouches for lenses on ebay, not sure if you could find one of those large enough?

How long is the lens? I used to carry an SLR with 28-50mm lens quite happily in one like this:

They are called 'ever-ready' cases, but seem to become extinct when film gave way to digital.

No more than 3 inches I'd estimate.

Funnily enough, I have one of those ever ready cases for my Canon A-1 but it would rattle around in it as the body of the EOS M is so dinky.

A company called Megagear seem to do lovely cases in that style for the M but don't seem to exist or sell them any more, sadly.

Will have a look at lens bags and see - it may well fit...

Silvestri make lens wraps which may fit the bill, you can get them through Linhof Studio who are great to deal with.

AKA never-ready cases, because you had to open/remove the top bit each time before using the camera.

I'm afraid I don't know the answer to the OP's question, but I will watch with interest as it certainly sounds like a good idea. I've been known to use a woolly hat for this job in the past but would prefer something more purpose built.

99p Store neoprene laptop/tablet covers are perfect. Many sizes available and I used them to cover anything from laptops, cameras, lenses, harddrives etc.

You just flip the top over and leave it hanging underneath. Much quicker than fiddling about with drawstring bags!

I'm not sure if the OP wants to store the camera and lens together or separately.

Yep, I have several.

It works just like that but then once you've taken your shot(s) you flip the top back on again. This means you have to flip it off again for the next set, which means if something quick happens you miss it (hence "never-ready"). A case like that may be quicker than a bag, but it's still a lot slower than just having the camera on a strap!

I do actually quite like them though (as long as the top bit is completely removable). The top bit then goes in my bag (or gets left at home) but the bottom bit still protects the most vulnerable areas of the camera.

I'd keep the lens attached - it's not the right camera for loads of lens messing and carrying IMO.

I think a "Never-ready" (I like that) would be fine if it was the sort with a removable top. You'd case it up for chucking in a bag to travel and then leave the top at your hotel (or even better, the OH's bag) as you describe.

I can't seem to find much that fits the bill online though.

Tried ebay? There are a couple of ever ready cases for the EOS M where you can take the top off.
