Photoshop Elements 12 and Retina screen
Discussion
I bought a copy of Photoshop Elements 12 four months ago as it does a couple of things that I like that Aperture 3 won't do. Namely Invert for turning negatives I copy into positives and I use the Resize / Image Size / Canvas Size for putting borders on files for printing. I don't use it for anything else. I got it just in case I might need it a few days before going to Italy for two months but in fact didn't use it at all whilst I was away.
When I do use it the images spend hardly any time in Photoshop but always look pixelated to me on my Mac Book Pro 15" Retina screen. I assumed that there was a setting somewhere to fix this but I never bothered to check. Today with a bit of time on my hands I had a look around if I could solve the pixellation problem. I now find out that Photoshop Elements 12 is not compatible with Retina screens and Adobe have no intention of fixing it. I bought a downloaded copy from Adobe for $99.00 / £78.00. Now available months later from the Apple store at £54.00 with a warning that it is not compatible with laptops with Retina screens.
Seems a bit weird that probably the best laptop for working on images on the move is not compatible with one of the top selling pieces of software. If I had bothered to check within 30 days I could have chucked it back at Adobe. Having said that it still does what I want it to do so I'm happy to live with it. Had I wanted to do more with it I would have been a bit peeved.
Just in case you have a MBP with a Retina screen don't buy this version of PS. Not sure about the other versions of PS. They might be OK.
