I've been thinking about upgrading my D70s, which mostly gets used for holiday snaps, have been offered a D90 which sort of appeals as it also has video capability and I can use my lenses, anybody have experience on vid quality?

Think the D90 is limited to circa 5 minute clips at 720p and is all manual focus.

The D5100 is probably better for video at a similar price-point. I believe there is a firmware hack that can remove the 20 minute limit on this model.

The D90 video isn't up to much. You'll get nice results but don't expect anything amazing. The quality is ok but with all DSLRs of this age, video was very much an after thought and they don't do it particularly well but for the odd bit here and there when out with the camera, it will suffice.

Video aside, the D90 is a great upgrade to the D70. You'll be very impressed with the rest of the camera. Even D80 to D90 would be very worthwhile.

The video on a recent iphone or S4/S5 will probably be much better, if you have one of those.

This is not good advice for a huge number of reasons.

I had a D70 and upgraded to a D90 3 years ago, whilst I don't use it for video I'm very happy with the upgrade.
