Does anyone have any experience of taking a monopod aboard a flight? Normally my monopod fits in my suitcase but I would like to travel light so I've worked out all my kit plus some overnight stuff will fit in my camera bag which I always take aboard as hand luggage.

Whilst I can put the monopod inside the bag there is at least 12 inches that sticks up out and above the bag so it could cause problems. I could bungee it to the side but it will still be outside the limitations for hand luggage. My only other option seems to be taking an old monopod and sawing the end off so if will fit in the bag, not an ideal solution but then I rarely shoot at maximum extension anyway.

Not had a problem with a monopod itself (although it got some funny looks...), but you're on your own with the size restrictions!
