Yep, a decent price and a nice camera to start out with. A D5000 was my first DSLR.
Do you know any history of the camera? I only ask because coming with a battery and lens but no charger can imply it was stolen but of course there could be a myriad of other explanations too. It would also be worth finding out the shutter count. I think the D5000 is tested to around 150,000.

Camera weren't stolen. £200,000 house, nice Audi S5 on the drive.
Just need to wait for a battery charger now.
That's practically a starter home these days

On an unrelated note, a friend of mine was pick pocketed on the London Underground a few years back, by someone dressed respectably in a suit....

Or ask him if he's ever been to the Middle East...
I doubt he would have photoshopped his face on to another guys body to justify selling the camera

I'd hazard a guess that 50% of houses in the North West are under £200,000. My first house will certainly be under £150,000.my girlfriend has a D5000
I would change the picture settings to either custom or vivid as the D5000 can be a little flat.
The 18-55 is ok, maybe get a 35mm or 50mm 1.8 prime 2nd hand but really the kit lens should be ok.
I'd change the fn button on the left hand side so that it controls ISO
Read up a bit so you understand shutter speed, F-stops and ISO and then get shooting full manual as soon as poss.
Its a really great lightweight DSLR

Good info
Thanks for that
have been reading up on the iso, shutter speed and aperture on the digital photography school website. Some brilliant tips on there. Some if it really is flying over my head so may speak to someone I know who takes photos in a club and has taken some cracking pictures. It really is an art. Not just about buying an expensive camera

Yup. Anyone can buy an expensive camera, but if you don't know how to use it and the techniques how to get the photos you want, you'll just end up with the same pics you can get from any cheap compact camera.
