Thats exactly the reason I prefer my black D70 - it's supposed to be a semi-professional bit of kit, not a...a.....a........compact

I can't imagine that plastic being stronger than the black variety. I bet if you dropped that it would break.

Let me put your worries aside by saying that it was for an exhibition, not real use.

Why so?

Translucent or clear plastic is nearly always weaker than black plastic. Don't ask me why, I don't quite get the technical part of it, but I've always found that to be the case.

Hmmm...

Maybe it's simply because you've drawn up an association where you think that all gizmos that are covered in clear plastic (like tackly mobile phone covers or cheap MP3 players) have bad build quality.

The D70 was designed with build and ergonomics in mind, and does not need a funky clear cover as a selling point.

I'd hazard a guess to say that there is no technical reason whatsoever behind why clear plastic is worse than opaque plastic - it's simply a case of your initial association because most clear plastic devices are pretty cheap and place more emphasis on street-cred than build quality.

Just a question: if the D70 were offered in a bright flourescent red instead of black, what would your very first initial impressions of it be?

My point exactly.
