I bought a w/a lens the other day for my EOS300, but I'm getting vinietting at the wide end. Not a major problem, I expected it anyway as its a lens meant for digital cameras with smaller capture areas than film.

I'm only losing about 1-2mm, but does anyone know of an adaptor ring that refocuses the image to fit accordingly?

Vignetting and focus are two different things. I don't know how you can get the smaller image of a 'digital' lens to cover 35mm. I fear you'll either have to avoid that portion of the zoom range, or get a w/a lens designed for 35mm cameras

The only lenses designed specifically for digital sensors are Canon's EF-S range, and these shouldn't fit on a non digital camera. What lens is it?

Sigma 18-50mm F3.5 - 5.6 DC

instructions said:
DC lenses are special lenses that are designated for digital cameras because the lens image circle is designated to correspond to the size of the image sensors of most digital SLR cameras.

An image sensor larger than those on DSLR cannot be used in 35mm SLR cameras, if such an element is used vignetting will occur on the picture surface

Like I said, its no problem as the lens still focuses on the film (I presume, lets wait for the pictures to arrive). If it doesn't, I'll take it back to Jessops as I bought the lens with the camera on the desk, the guy knew exactly what I wanted it for. I'm not bothered about the vignetting really, after all I'll probably get a DSLR when they improve to the standard I want in a few years.

Ah, looks like this is a digital only lens. I guess Sigma didn't want to restrict it to the EF-S mount cameras, so they've made it with the standard mount. Maybe the Jessops guy didn't realise that people still use film cameras!

I would exchange it - you have every right as you've been sold the wrong product for your camera. Why put up with vignetting (or trying to avoid it) when you don't have to?
