Anyone able to recommend a good value monitor?
Discussion
I think I might be in need of upgrading my old Dell monitor. It's currently displaying at 1600x1200 and is a VGA connection. I am forever disappointed with my photos when I get 'em on the PC after looking at them on the screen on my camera. I know the camera will always look better but I do feel that a more up to date HD monitor would improve things.
Any recommendations under £200?

you might be ebtter off buying a screen calibration device like the Spyder Datacolor
These seem to be pretty good value:

I've got two but haven't used them yet, a friend has one and thinks it's really good though. I believe they're colour calibrated and come with a certificate to prove it - they do a newer version with a bit more resolution, but I think they cost a fair bit more.

They seem to be very good and I bought them refurbed from a retailer on ebay for about £80 each, plus another £15 or so each for a stand

I have never managed to get a modern screen to respond well to my Eye One calibration device. More over I don't think it matters much unless totally accurate colour is of paramount importance. If it is then one should probably be looking at high end Dell or more likely NEC or Eizo.
I looked at the Mac screens a few years ago and was underwhelmed at the time.
As yet I am not convinced about the overall efficacy of 4k and 5k screens - not all software has yet been updated to work well with them and if you are to make the most of them you should really run with large preview files which in turn suggests comparatively high storage demands and/or a lot of processing power so that every time you open a small preview the thing can be upscaled (OR, better, reprocessed from the original) to make use of the screen resolution in which you are invested.
A few years back I bought an AOC 22" 1920x1080 monitor which works pretty well - LED, lots of connectivity and it's a touch screen (for what that is worth) and the model at the time was well under your budget. It has the usual sort of constraints for a budget screen - tends to be a tad blue and the backlight is not completely even at the edges - but it's quite usable at about 1/6th the price of something that gets closer to eliminating such issues.
However I now use a Dell Precision Mobile workstation with a 15" screen of the same resolution and that does that job for me so I rarely plug in the AOC.
Purely by chance after I had posted above I came across this article that makes some interesting observations about human vision vs what cameras record and includes a couple of graphs about the colour response sensitivities of different types of monitor screen technology.
I thought it might be of some interest one way or another.
