Hahah. You mean the splash page? I was worried that may be the impression given, hence adding the other pictures on that page.

Put the RSS link in the head section of the main page, then Firefox will spot it and be able to add a dynamic bookmark.

e.g.
< link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="RSS 2.0" href="http://www.davidhambly.co.uk/gallery/rss.php" />

I like it. Should be easy to maintain and the structure is flexible enough that it will still look good no matter how many photos or galleries you add. Nice one

Nice one.

Everytime I rebuild mine I soon run into the 'I hate it' syndrome. Your layout is (as has been said) flexible enough to grow without pi55ing you off too much. Keep up the good work.

Eh?!?!?!?!

Do you use Firefox 1.0?
If so, visit news.bbc.co.uk for example, and notice the little orange icon that appears in the bottom right corner of Firefox (right by the resize handle). If you click on that, it will give you the option to 'subscribe to rss' which creates a live bookmark - a dynamic folder that always contains the current set of headlines, as provided by the feed. The 'link rel...' stuff is how you tell the browser that there is an alternative way of viewing the content of the current page (in this case, your RSS feed).
Hope that helps.

Thanks Chris. Im still a little confused. I have an RSS logo at the bottom of my gallery page but it just switches the page to code view! Ive looked at NEWS.BBC.CO.UK and its made it a little clearer - its a way of subscribing so that you receive a note to say theyve updated the site? So I could broadcast a 'memo' everytime I update, telling people that ive added images?

Sorry to be dense, and thanks for your suggestion - I'm just trying to understand it

That's because it's not in a format your browser knows how to display. It does understand what the contents mean though.

Nearly there... The RSS logo on the gallery at the moment is just a conventional link that is part of the page itself, and it just happens to point at the rss file. Doing the 'link rel' thing tells the browser "there's an alternative way of viewing this" (and Firefox, being clever, spots that and gives you the option of creating the live bookmark from it).
Then, as you say, you can update the rss to announce new galleries, or whatever (it currently contains links to your five gallery pages). Then, anybody who has "subscribed" to the rss (either as a live bookmark, or with a dedicated rss reader) will get to know about it.

Edited to add:
Ted should/could do the same with the PH news feeds.
