Dad's got an old Olympus SLR with some manual trickery attached that he no longer uses...

I'm really enjoying playing on the digital side of things, but am becoming frustrated with the lack of control that a digi cam gives (unless of course you start to spend money), so I'm thinking about nicking the SLR off Pa and having a play..

Are there any websites anyone can recommend that may assist me in getting some good results (or at least a good understanding!)...

cheers,

slinky

Deja vu!
I've just updated it and taken out all refs to film but luckily have the original version if you mail me.
Glad to see that somebody wants to learn the original way - get the film SLR mastered then you can really enjoy digital later Film SLRs are so cheap you can learn the physics for little £.

Hi Slinky!

You may wish to check out Michael Langford's 'Basic Photography'. It is pretty much the bible for all students of photography.

"It...takes you step by step through equipment and techniques, gives information on how materials and processes work, and demonstrates the relationshipo between technical and visual aspects of photography."

"The book has remained the standard introductory work for aspiring professional photographers." The British Journal of Photography.

Have fun!

It will be the best £20 you ever spent. Worth the investment believe me.

I now have the camera.. it's an Olympus OM10 in rather good condition...

You can tell how old it is by looking at the manual...

Will post more details shortly...

Ahhh the OM10 nice little camera. I got my OM10 26 years ago now my eldest daughter is using it and I use an OM2 SP which I've had for about 20 years!
One failing of the early OM10 cameras was the breakup of the magnets on the shutter blind and could cause the shutter to stick causing over or under exposure.
Anyway Happy snapping
