. . . whether I like this or not?

Could I have done anything better?

Erm, well I'm probably not the best person to make a call on this as people here who have met me will probably know but (oh dear Phil, best stop now....ah what the hell)....

It's a candle and some grass. Why bother? Hands up, I'm not one for contrived photos (which I suspect this is). I'm not having a go at you Mark and I'm sure I've seen some more impressive shots from you in the past. There's just no interest here.

Technically it looks ok at that resolution.

Now, if the grass was on fire as well....

Sorry if I've offended at all and I'm not setting out to. It's just that with the millions of images generated now, I guess I've got picky.

Thats very pretty. Could you post a larger version?

My only critisism is that the candle is slightly over-bright. Perhaps if you bracketed the exposure, and did a bit of photoshopping, you might be able to reduce its intensity slightly.

Very nice. Goto www.harphampix.com/v2/ and create an account, its a great site for getting constructive feedback on your photography.

I'm not offended.

It was a dark room and I just wondered if I could get a picture.

As for the size, it was uploaded to photobucket at 600x800

I like the colour and atmoshpere you're trying to create. I think what you're saying is that it doesn't feel 100% right but you don't know why ? If you could lower the candle slightly in the frame it would put the highlight nearer a third and also throw the shadows higher up the wall. This would give you a more classical composition and reduce the amount of dead space at the top of the frame.

You might also move the grasses and other bits about a touch - especially the one directly behind the candle on the left hand side as its a bit close and catching the light a little distractingly.

Good, and like I said technically it's fine. I think low light photography is really interesting. I've used the flash no more than 5 times in the last 2 years I like it so much.

If your camera allows very long (say 30 second) exposures then you can have real fun. With an ND filter (or 3) you can even go for long exposures during the day. I've got a film shot of a house with trees in the wind during the day. Really interesting effect.

The down side is in the digital world, you'll learn all about hot pixels very quickly....

I like it - to get even better how about a less cluttered background: K.I.S.S. ?
