Could anybody put a value on this little lot please?

Unfortunately my best mate died just before Christmas. He was a keen photographer. His wife has asked if I would like to buy his kit. I know absolutely nothing about cameras or photography and therefore would like some guidance as to how much it is all worth as, if I do buy it, would like to pay her the "going rate".
I have just retired from TVR racing and now looking for a new hobby. Motorsport photography could well be the one
Also will be be any good for a total novice?
Camera: Canon EOS 5D
Canon EF 16-35mm 2.8L USM Lens
Canon EF 70-300 4.5-5.6 DO IS USM Lens
loads of Lee Filters
Tripod (don't know the make but apparently it is a good one?)
...and other bits and bats

It could be very good gear the 70-300 DO is worth around £400 (I paid just under last Aug and one sold last week for just over £400) the 16-35 is similar (depending on the version)

On top of that if you were to consider it, good though the kit is, it's not the most obvious combo for motor sport. By some way.LongQ said:

The 16-35 would be okay for low light in the forests (okay, maybe a bit wide - a 24-70 F2.8 would be better, but at a push...)
Okay, I suppose you're right, it's not the obvious kit, but would mostly work if the price was right.

The 16-35 is the friend of landscape people. Could be interesting in the paddock but just not the typical choice.
I have a 70-300 DO. When it does something nice I love it. Focus is not fast. At the long end the images are erratic for sharpness. Hit rate, on a good day with good light ... maybe 3 on 10 for something that really is usable. On a dull day, nil. You can't use an extender.
Mine has been Canon serviced and sent back for re-calibration 'cos something internal (apparently) broke between them servicing/repairing and me getting it back.
It has a great DO "look" when everything comes together. The look is especially interesting for landscapes and, perhaps, portraits. It's not a fast lens, especially at the long end, which may be does not help its focus performance for action photography.
To be frank I'm not sure it would be right for action stuff even if the price was right except that at the right price would could move it on and pay for stuff that would be more suited without adding to the pot.
That said the combination for more general purposes ought to be pretty good and would be nice to have.

5D3 is an excelent motorosports camera IMO.
Great AF decent FPS ( no need to machine gun too often).
70-300 is a bit short but it depends where you are shooting from , its a decent compact lens, but an odd choice.
16-35/2.8 is expensive also.
Quite a solid and pricey setup.
Note a Lee filter setup could easily be £1k on its own.
