Hi All,

One of my main failings is landscape photography - on the whole i'm a bit crap at it. So, today I set myself the challenge of capturing some images worth uploading to the web, whatever the weather - then I looked out of the window. The sky was grey, featureless and the light was pretty poor. Nevertheless, I walked off, ND Grad filter in hand, to see what I could come up with - and here are the results...

The first 4 images in this album:

I'm not sure this shot is really anywhere near good enough to be uploaded to be honest, but I rather like it for some reason!

Im not sure if my shots are getting better or worse, but I think i'm gradually learning to get better shots in poor conditions, if that makes any sense!?

Any comments?

Dave

Dave

I like number 5 in your first album "Heaven's Gate" - lovely composition and you've got the clouds really nicely captured too.

Had a play with Heaven's Gate as I really like the composition.

Firstly did an "autocontrast"
Then added +1 on the blue channel
Then colour corrected to white on the clouds
Then changed the levels to stretch the middle and darken down the foreground.

Like it more?

Hmm, I think you're going in the right direction, but I think you may have gone a bit over the top, especially on the blue! I agree that the original needs work though - it lacks any depth and looks a bit crap, now that I look at it again.

I spent 30seconds running an 'Auto Levels' on it in PS7 - I think this is a happy medium between both extremes?

Dave

PS Thanks for spending some time on it!

I was just making the point . As I wasn't there I've no idea what it actually looked like.

LOL, Fair point! Whats the actual look got to do with anything?

TBH it looked very drab and grey on the day - totally crap really. The photos look much nicer
