Any camera experts on the board?
Discussion
Really interested in shooting some film of the cars.
Have just ordered a camera mount with suction cups etc, and now i think i need to get an external microphone.
Something that I can plug into the camera, a little sony one, and then place inside the car or near exhaust etc.
Been doing a google search but to no avail, anyone have any advice on what to get?
Thanks very much

Scroll down to accessories....
Microphone - 1.5 metre cable
Microphone with 2.1mm connections
(will use same power supply as camera, power loop through)
(Direct connection, no pre-amp required)
The mic is not waterproof
The long length allows it to be placed out of wind noise!
Easy to connect.
£12.50 - in stock
Should do the job

If you want to record sound externally on a moving vehicle, you'll need to protect it against the wind.
I use these:
www.rycote.com/
But, its my job, so I can afford them. If you can't afford them, I suggest the following mega-cheap method:
Buy 2 litre bottle of coke
Drink coke
Cut bottle in half
Get fake fur rug or similar (cheap obviously)
Stick fake fur onto top of sock
Drill about 20 holes through fur and bottle
Take fur off bottle
Get a big thin sock, or wooly stocking
Pull sock/stocking over coke bottle
Stick fake fur onto top of sock
You should now have a half coke bottle, with holes through the plastic bottle and fur, but NOT the sock (important). This, when facing the wind, will quite effectively mute any wind noise, but let most other sound through. All you have to do then is put the microphone in the bottle, and suspend it using strong elastic (so it doesn't touch the sides). Stuff the area behind the mic with a bit of foam, so you don't get turbulence.
You could also try finding a massive piece of foam (the thicker the better), and burying the mic head in there. It won't be pretty, but it may work.

May be different in the Pork, but you may get OK results using a normal mic taped strategically inside the car. Not sure how close you can get to the engine bay, perhaps under the upholstery/seats etc, but it may work nicely.
A cheap, crappy PC mic used to work brilliantly on my 7.
I've never been able to get the little mic's with RFConcept's gear to work (something to do with it being "line in" I think. The cameras, though, asre great.
