Venice....

Venice had always been somewhere I was longing to go to for many years. I've heard the stories of the smelly canals and hoards of tourists in the summer, which are so off putting. So after a little bit of help from some Italian friends they advised me that pre-Christmas is one of the nicest times to go.
The first day was a bit hazy, but we were blessed with a crisp blue sky the rest of the weekend

Here's a few of my favourite pictures:

Any critical advise would be much appreciated.
I didn't have the time for a tripod, so wasn't really able to use my filters to the best of their ability... had to keep teh Mrs happy as well you know (maybe next time)

Stu - I love the 9th one down (the backs of the 3 gondolas). The mood that the shot has really does keep you engrossed in it!

Are they moving the Leaning Tower from Pisa to Venice to keep all their historical disasters together in one place for easier maintenance?

I take it you climbed the Medici tower for some of those. That's a bloody long way up

Really nice shots shady! I like them all in different ways. Not much to offer re constructive criticism, only thing i might try would be to boost the saturation a in the yellow and or red channels to bring out the beautiful colour of the buildings and maybe a notch more contrast. Just my taste though.

Great photos.

These are really beautiful photographs Stuart. The compositions of all of them are excellent and very well considered. The light is gorgeous in the first three shots. You appear to have been blessed with some great weather and light. I take it you bought the 300mm lens then? It looks like you have put it to very good use, especially in the shot of the boats.

I would agree that you need to add some yellow to these shots as the latter ones are looking a little blue and somewhat cold.

You can buy software to check the calibration of your monitor. Spyder is excellent and is what I have used. It is available from Calumet: www.calumetphoto.com
