I need a remote for my D7100 and saw a Hahnel combi tf wireless shutter release and flash remote. It looks and sounds good, but before I buy, has anyone had any experience? (good or bad)
I did download Nikons remote app, but it's useless as it constantly loses connection with the camera.

I bought one as a present for my Dad's Canon 5D. I originally bought a Vello, but it stopped working and the Hahnel was much better quality. It does exactly what it says on the tin, and is an excellent remote trigger. He uses it for all sorts, HDR on tripod to eliminate camera shake, timelapse, telephoto shots to remove shake.
If you want a remote app, the digicamcontrol for tethered shooting on Windows is brilliant, and the DSLR Dashboard for android also works very well and supports Nikon wireless links.
If your phone keeps disconnecting from the camera, you will find that often its not actually the camera's fault. Android is setup to search for a internet connection on it's wireless link. If it doesn't find one, it will drop the connection and instead connect to the next wireless network in its list. The only way I found to stop it doing it, is to tell it to forget all active networks in range. Which is annoying as you then have to re-enter your password if you want to connect back to your home network.
Edit - oops just seen you are talking about the Hahnel remote + wireless flash combination. I was talking about the Hahnel Giga T Pro II Wireless Remote Control. Sorry ! - personally I would use the Yongnuo 622c flash trigger : http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00IN2DA40 as it supports TTL, flash groups etc. If you just want to trigger the flash manually, a free option is to use the pop up flash as a trigger, and set your remote flash as a slave. You can build a hood from the insides of an old 3.5inch computer disk as this blocks most light except for IR which what the flash triggers from.
I would recommend the Hahnel Giga as a remote as it supports timelapse functions. bit more expensive but its a quality product.
