want something more than i phone pictures

cant get software to download pictures from my 15 year old canon ixus v !

thought i wanted a bridge or a basic dslr....

until i looked at the new compacts...some up to 30 times zoom, the size is a major plus, as is, most having wifi for convenient upload

most pics will be of cars, most stationary, but at the odd track day too.

thoughts?

30x zoom always sounds great until you realise a big chunk of that is digital zoom rather than optical zoom

There are a lot that go to 60x optical now - Panasonic DMC-FZ72, Fuji HS50, Nikon Coolpix P600, Olympus SP100 to name but a few. However, my experience of the FZ72 was that it didn't focus particularly quickly.

Sony RX100 Mark 2 or a Canon G7X. Both a small enough to be carried anywhere and great cameras.

Budget?
Might be worth going down the DSLR route, so that you can change lenses if you want to (fisheye, telephoto etc)

There is a thread for a second hand Canon 650D....might be worth a look?
