What colour profile do you use?
Discussion
Hi - I am looking for a bit of guidance and advice. I have been reading a bit about colour space lately and decided to use ProPhoto rather than sRGB to edit my pictures as this seemed to give a wider colour profile but meant using 16 bit images (rather than 8). The consequence was perhaps better (?) looking pictures but a slower computer while editing and some massive files at the end - jpegs in excess of 20Mb. The other problem I encountered was that some web pages can't/won't handle this colour profile so convert images to sRGB and this has resulted in a considerable corruption/alteration in the image appearance. I would greatly value the views of some of the experts on this forum as to what they use, whether sRGB is OK and if there is any workaround for converting images from one colour profile to another without altering the colours too much. I have PhotoshopCC and Lightroom. Many thanks.
RAW (ie no profile) ==> LR (ProPhoto by default and won't make any performance difference in program)
When outputting ==> sRGB JPEG for web/screen
Or sRGB to a print place.
How critical is your colour management? Are you playing with critical reds'n'greens that need precise treatment for printing?
Otherwise, I pay much more attention these days to getting colour balance correct (or easily achievable with a reference for LR) rather than letting the camera foul it up on its own....
