Hi All

Not sure anyone will be able to help with this but it worth an ask.

I've just picked up one of these cheep action cameras for an MTB trip we are doing across Wales next weekend. It's badged as an SJ4000 Wifi and unlike most of the copies out there which are easily identifiable, it is physically identical to a genuine SJ4000 in every way.

It does however appear to be a copy as when the latest firmware is installed it stops working. I can get most of the functionality back by messing around with older firmware. But some of the buttons now do different things.

There are loads of bits on the forums about this and it seems that if I can track down the original (Fake) firmware I will be able to use the camera with no problems. I can't send it back as I bought it from ebay for £20 brand new as a spares or repair to play with. When it came it was unopened and worked 100% until the firmware update. I think someone was just selling off a load of fakes cheep as they had 12!

Anyway has anyone come across this?

The original firmware file was G20141223V01 I've trawled the net with no luck. If anyone can point me in the direction of the original firmware I would be very grateful.

Even in it's not quite 100% working state this little camera is great by the way!

Thanks Karl.

You know a genuine one is 40 quid?
Try the m10 though which is the latest version. 50 quid with all the mounts you need and a waterproof case.

Got it sorted managed to find a version of the original FW on a French site.

Yep I know you can get a new SJ4000 Wifi for around £59 with all the bits but I like a challenge. So today I've had a 20 quid one recording via an iPhone with no problems at all.

If I could guaranty actually buying a genuine one for 60 quid I 100% would because they are a great bit of kit. But so many fakes out there at the minute you need to be careful.

Aparently some of the other SJCAMS are worth a look as there is less chance of them being cloned? SJ5000 etc.

Cheers KY
