An annoying flaw on the D70's software!!
Discussion
Hi Guys,
Ive found a rather annoying 'bug' in the D70's software - the AUTO ISO mode, which works great, doesn't switch itself off in Manual mode (on the menu for this feature it says it works in A,V&P modes - no mention of in Manual mode).
So, I switched my camera to manual, set the shutter at 30 seconds, the aperture to f22 and stood the camera on a tripod. I then too this image:
www.davidhambly.co.uk/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=Nature&id=Westminster_Bridge_London
And its taken at ISO 1100 of all things - christ knows why, it was set to 30secs anyway, so how it thought it could keep the shutter speed above 1/60th I have no idea. Very annoying though - I like the shot but wanted it taken at ISO200 - thats why I set that bloody setting!! IMHO all controls should be manual in manual mode.
Grrr!!

I confess I don't use manual metering so haven't hit this problem. Evidently AutoISO is still active on M mode, though why it chose 1100 and not 1600... perhaps it was trying to adjust your exposure - ie ir 'knew' your settings were giving slight over-exposure?
Ah well, you'll just have to turn it off and fly by the seat of your pants

I had this too with the pics I took over the cars - it seems to adjust the ISO as much as it does the shutter speed! I've ended up with a lot of noise in the pictures which is annoying.
Another stage on the learning curve though - I think I'll remove the ISO auto setting next time I use the camera.
