I haven't used my camera in months.

I did pack it up and take it to a few places with intent, but then never actually got it out to use it. I just didn't see anything I felt like taking a photo of.

Additionally I also have a huge back log of photos to process in LR and PS. I just don't seem to have the motivation or the time to do it!

How can I get back into taking interesting photos? How do people deal with getting into a slump where they don't feel like there is anything worth shooting?

To be honest, if you don't have any motivation or inspiration, then I don't think it's worth it. You'll never achieve anything creative.

I get like that if there is a back-log waiting to be processed. My solution is to make a very quick run through the backlog for anything amazing and then just write off the rest. Gets me back to a clean slate and ready to start again on things that I am excited about.

Why do you insist on taking photos?

But in my experience, if you've managed to leave them unprocessed, they are likely to be poor or just average images. I'd be dying to work on them as soon as possible if I think they would be great images.

I don't disagree with that. That's why I'll happily scrap 99% of a backlog if it gets me shooting again. The RAW files will always be there on my hard drive in the unlikely event I discover that I do need something from them.

Those. I go through patches I dont shoot much, it all comes from motivation and passion. Without those I dont go out or if I do I dont create.

So I go do something else. Mountainbike, surf, play computer games etc

I guess I should have mentioned...part of the reason is because I already do do other things.

I am out every night either running, swimming, cycling or gym. If not those out with friends. So in what time I do have left, when I think, oh I'll go take the camera out...I draw a blank.

Anywho...off to Montenegro soon, so there'll definitely be something interesting to use the camera on.

As for processing. The pictures I have to do are actually ones I want to do because I think they'll look nice once done. Most of them are actually done, but its the ones from the Grand Canyon that are getting me down. They have a horrible blue cast. I know what they should look like, I have a vision of how I want it to look. The skills are lacking though....I just can't get them right.

Ignore them then. Come back to them in 12 months when your skills are a year more advanced and try again. I guarantee they are what is causing the mental block.
