I went down to Canary Wharf today.
I am going again!, definately!
Whithin that few hundred square feet is a plethera of unique images waiting to be captured.
Vibrant colours, exciting architecture, beautiful people, arty abstracts, water, light, enough to overload your senses.

However, be warned. The place is full of nosey anal security guards!. "have you got a permit"?
"NO, what for?"
"You cannot take pictures without a permit"
"F**K off, you are joking"
"NO!, You need to go to security for a permit"
"Do i look like a FUC................"
So i gave up as i was told this every 5 minutes and as a result i made a lot of very silly mistakes. It was their fault honest
Allright i know they are doing their job and all but i finally get to take some not so shabby pictures and they spoil it.
Anyway:

I know, VERTICALS

I know there is a lot to take in there but any help and or comments would as always be apreciated.
I think the term is conveging verticals. Also found out i had the camera stuck on iso 1600 up to about picture 30, most distressed i was.
Anyway i am generally pleased with the day but like i said i shall have to make time to go back.
Ian

If you quote Bilko then copy + paste the addresses into your browser's address bar you can see them.

The one that caught my eye was the clocks one, the others lack something.

I can't see them unless i take the quote option, but by strange event, once the address of the image has been pasted into the address bar, i can see the image in the thread as per normal

If they are big images it's probably better to list the images as above rather than embed the images into the thread.
I hate it when I'm trying to read the last post and it's constantly moving out of sight as more images load above it.

Ditto. Ted's working on a patch for that though... fingers crossed it comes soon.

Email me the pics and i'll re-size them to 600px and post them in this thread

That works for me!

edit - i can now see them in this thread. What happens is the image is stored in the cache on your computer. When the link is there, the computer 'assumes' that you're viewing the image again so loads the pic from your cache... not from the website. An annoying negative of cache... which makes the web run a lot faster

ok, cool
I have just started to download the pics to you.
Norton is festidiousely scanning them at a snails pace.
Feel free to ditch them if it all works mate.
Thanks again for your help Andrew.
If i clear my settings stuff on the genera explorer tab, ie clean out the cache would that be good?

Your settings on your computer won't affect whether or not i can view the pics.

I've just replied to your email which i 'think' explains the reason the pics can't be viewed in the forum.

For others - i 'think' these gallery companies use weird coding to make their picture urls not work when viewed in a forum or away from the gallery site. Pics shown on the net use up bandwidth, especially so when pics are posted in a forum. Their revenue is partly due to adverts on their site, thus they don't want the pics to be viewed on a third party site

I did the quote and paste thing. They're good except the stairs one, I don't like that. I especially like the clocks and moving people one. Here's one of mine from CW.

Ok, just confirmed what i needed to know. They are a bit sterile. No feeling. Although technically correct ( according to my bro who isn't a photographer), they lack any real interest or impact.

I knew this. I think it's time to get down and dirty, feel the grit. Smelly cafe, banana skin on the road, dirty faced toddler!....Life!
Imagine if you could capture the noise and smell of an alley cat eating from a discarded box of chinese takeaway.

Thanks for the replies guys, shame the links didn't work. Is it just me or do you get excited by the anticipation of an event about to wander infront of your lens?. Almost like you are about to create something for the first time.

How do they treat tourists, eg the stereotypical Jap with 5 cameras? Maybe pretend you're German and can't speak English?
I had my bellyful of jobsworth 'security guards' at a venue last week; they have no brains or initiative, they just make life damn awkward. Mine was about 8 feet tall and had a spiderweb tatooed on his neck. Nice.

I use pbase as well. To link individual images.
Click on the image and copy the URL address at the top

eg. www.pbase.com/bilko1971/image/39546418

but then add .jpg on the end to insert into {pic} {p/pic}

So...

nice pics
