Flat screen recommendation for Photoshopping?
Discussion
I'm looking at getting an LCD screen to replace my old 22" CRT, and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations.
I'm looking for one that's good for Photoshop work, and ideally with a res of at least 1600x1200. I've been using my Thinkpad quite a lot recently, and the 15" 1600x1200 screen on that is amazing, so I'd love something with similar sharpness but in a desktop format, and with a bit more adjustability (e.g., colour temp). I'd like to keep the cost down to <£600 if possible.

Admittedly a little higher than you want to spend, but apparently the Eizo Flexscan L885 is the monitor to convert graphics professionals from CRT to LCD...

Someone else has recommended a Mac Cinema display as well as Formac Gallery - are these in the same sort of ballpark?
Can't comment on quality, but www.overclockers.co.uk do a good price on Apple screens. I ordered my Powerbook direct from Apple and it took a while to come. Overclockers will probably post next day
If they're anything like my powerbook, the quality will be excellent.
Enjoy

Price wise it looks like the apple is cheaper, and looking at the specs it seems to offer all the colour control you could ever need.
As ever with Apple stuff, the Apple screen looks
which might be enough to sway it for home use? Beyond that I'm no expert so wouldn't like to recommend one over the other.. sorry
Apple cinema displays aren't cheap, but are excellent quality.
You are VERY unlikely to get Apple gear cheaper, but some outlets offer their own advantages.
I think John Lewis give their 5yr warranty, and others may give quicker supply.
When I get back home I'm going to have a look at some of the big HDTV style plaasma/LCD TVs and see what these look like hooked up to a computer. I hear they're excellent. Remain to be convinced, but worth an afternoon browsing.

how many £££?
I went through all these options a few months back. I looked at the new Apple screens (23" & 30"), Sony, Eizo and Samsung. In the end i surprised myself by going for the Samsungs!
I have a pair of 243T's , both run at 1920x1200, giving me a 3840x1200 desktop. The tricky part is getting a video card to drive these via DVI, as this config is slightly outside the official DVI spec. However the Nvidia 6800's are now capable.
I use Photoshop and 3DS Max and the picture via DVI is nigh on as good as my old Iiyama CRT's.........
The Apple 30" is quite something to behold though

Did anyone see the two apple 30" at the last Apple Expo at the Design Centre Islington a few months back? My God! How big. We use the Apple 23" and thought they were big, then you see the 30", and then two together! MASSIVE. You will need a massive wallet to buy two of those things thought! You pay for what you get.

Rico - Do you use overclockers? I've been using them and scan for years, but my last 2 orders have been incorrect and delayed due to lack of stock, even though it has a green "in stock" symbol on the website ;( - Then on Friday i got an email saying they weren't responding to email! Then tried to ring about twenty times over the weekend and today and permanently engaged.

The owner (spie) is on pistonheads every so often.
I have a Dell 8600 Notebook with their top of the range TFT screen which runs at 1920x1200.
Pin sharp (though documents can be a trifle small to read) and wonderfully vivid for photo stuff.
If they do a desktop equivalent I would buy one. Haven't checked - don't have the need just yet.

I might try and email him direct. Overclockers have been my favourite supplier for several years and the recent problems seem very out of character.......
