Second hand 7d vs New 700d?

I currently have an 1100d but its very limited on the video side and only does 720p, so I've decided to upgrade to a 700d. But a local LCE has a 7d for the same price as a 700d.

Will it be that much cheaper than new because its a tatty version or just old? And how do the 2 compare video wise?

Photography wise is mainly the kids around the house and when we go out, with a little bit of landscape.

I too had been debating whether to buy a 100D or 700D for several months to sit alongside my RX100, and finally bit the bullet a few weeks ago and bought a 700D as a Christmas present, I looked at prices between John Lewis, Jessops and PC World but eventually grew bored of the silly yoyo pricing games and ordered from www.digitalrev.com which was considerably cheaper. I placed my order on Monday and it was delivered on Thursday which was quite astonishing.

As with you my main uses will be photographing my high-speed kids in the house and out and about, plus lots of other stuff which PH has opened my eyes up to such as cars, macro and of course moon pics. The RX100 is extremely good in good lighting but struggles sometimes to focus on fast moving kids indoors in low light, plus I needed something with interchangeable lenses and this is where the DSLR comes into its own.

I haven't tried the video using the 700D as yet mainly because that wasn't what I purchased it for, but the paper specs do seem pretty good.

I purchased the 700D with the 18-55 IS STM lens kit, a EF 50mm F1.8 STM lens (for those blurry background pics), and a 55-250mm F4-5.6 IS STM zoom lens. Have been having great fun with the 50mm lens though haven't had much opportunities to use the other lenses as yet.

The 700D is a pretty nice bit of kit, takes SD cards, is very fast with focusing and the menu system is quite intuitive (though I assume will be very similar to your 1100D) and it seems to be very well built and is fairly light which isn't really an issue to me but may be to other users.

Am sure DD purchased a 760D which takes you up to the next level of performance, but I couldn't warrant the added expenditure at this moment in time, perhaps next year if I become reasonably proficient in the use of the 700D.

Can upload a few videos recorded using the 700D at 1080p if that will help.

If you're ok with grey import, have a look at HDEW too.

Delivery time was excellent, I ordered the items on Mon 7 Dec and they were delivered around mid-day on Thursday 10 Dec by UPS, DigitalRev also provided me with a UPS tracking number so I could keep an eye on progress. Was very impressed with the service.

that is good, I got my 50mm 1.8 for a similar price at last Christmas, its great fun. Although I think the 1100d struggles with focusing with it. Hence one of the reasons for replacement.

The older the 7D is a professional level camera whilst the 700d is a consumer camera and is probably more suited to your needs.

By that I mean the 7D is built better (waterproofing, magnesium body etc) as it's designed to outside capturing sports events in all weather with a bit rougher handling etc and it's overly complicated compared to the 700d for most "normal" users. It's still a great camera and better than the 700d in a lot of areas but for taking pics of the kids etc it's massive overkill.

Pretty much why I went for the 700d, if I was really into the photoside of it I would have gone for the 7d.

Yeah 7D is still a performance camera, 25 frame buffer, 8fps, good AF, decent image quality, largeish solid body with fast operation.

If you just want a small high quality slr the 700d will do, the only downsides is build but its not a bad camera either.
