Canon 70D viewfinder

Hi

I have a 70D, which I've only had a few months, and there is a mark on the viewfinder; a small grey blob. It doesn't show on pictures I've taken and it doesn't show on the LiveView screen. I don't know what it is or how it got there. I can't take a picture of it as it's in the viewfinder! I was wondering if anyone might know what the best course of action is, or whether anyone has experienced anything similar. I suppose the first step is to take to a local camera shop for their advice.

Take it in to a good camera shop. It's probably a but of dirt on the focusing screen or mirror

I have the very same issue on my 70D that appeared recently. Haven't had time to take it into Park Cameras yet to get them to have a look though

Take the lens off and use a rocket blower to try dislodge the muck from the focus screen and make sure you get it out of the camera, not sitting in the mirror box as it will end up on the sensor then.

DO NOT touch the focus screen , at all. They are fragile and easily damaged, dont be tempted to wipe it with anything.

it wont affect your pictures at all.

Thanks for your suggestion, Rob. (I love your pictures, by the way!). Which is the focus screen? Is it the mirrored square immediately inside the camera? Do you believe the debris is on there rather than in/around the viewfinder?

nope thats the mirror, the focus screen is above that.

Not only does he take stunning photos he also gives out bloody good advice....can that man get any more annoying

Cheers Rob took several big blows with a rocket to clear - seems I may have brought back a lump of sand from a recent trip to Death Valley!
