Wondering if anybody has any cool spots to capture some London skyline shots?

Will be there around Jan for work & looking to get to some rooftops but not sure what is/isn't accessible.

SkyGarden maybe? Will be warm if you want to do sunset shooting. It's free but you need to book your visit...

I realise it doesn't tick the the 'up high' box but this spot is free and easy and a great view of the Shard and surroundings.

Primrose hill, to the north of regents park

Hillton Park Lane - the restaurant & bar up the top, has outdoor balconies. - very nice views south, and west over hyde park. (might get a great view of winter wonderland at night)

skygarden

the shard - in my view is one to avoid. Its so high, and you're quite far from other tall buildings.

One New Change rooftop terrace. Fantastic view of St. Paul's Cathedral.

Absolutely cracking photos, one thing I am definitely going to need is a tripod to capture some shots during the evening and early morning.

Any other suggestions please keep them coming.

Also not sure if allowed but any other more photography focused forum worth checking out for more locations? PM me if not allowed to post directly.

Not to worry, any locations are worthwhile knowing about. Some good shots there too

You can get some nice shots of London from along the bridges. Not the best but taken from one of the bridges ages ago, one of the first shots I took with my camera as it happens. I keep meaning to go back and do it a bit better. Views were both ways with interesting stuff to see.

I may be wrong, but I think the location linked to on Google maps is North bank of the river but West of Tower Bridge, whereas the photo showing the Shard behind Tower Bridge must have been taken from East of Tower Bridge - somewhere not far from The Blitz Memorial maybe?
As I say, I may be wrong and happy to be corrected! smile

Pretty much anywhere along the Southbank from Westminster Bridge to Tower Bridge will get you some great shots, and there's a pedestrian path along the river the whole way, so no traffic to get in the way. Just be aware that the security guards will come and move you on pretty quickly if you try to use a tripod in front of County Hall.

Having said that, the only reason you'd really want to use a tripod in front of County Hall is for night shots of the Houses of Parliament, and those are all universally crap as a rule, because for some unfathomable reason, the whole building is lit up except for the front corner under Big Ben, so it looks really awkward in photos!
