This is probably not the best place for some decent help, as if you've never shot with film before you need a reasonable introduction. That would be difficult on a forum. I'd recommend reading a book or going online for some tutorials, and coming back with specific questions. I'd also recommend www.talkphotography.com as it has a dedicated film section.
I recommended this person join PH from Facebook in order to learn from the wise people who know what they are talking about when it comes to photography. I see now that this maybe wasn't a wise move. She seems to be a genuine person who could have really benefitted from some good advice. I shall not bother to recommend again.

Well, if I can make a recommendation it would be to recommend you to ensure that the person asking the question here does so in a far less open-ended way. That they ask targetted questions after they have done some basic research on their own. If they are not prepared to even do that then I agree with your not making recommendations.Zerotonine said:
I will try to speak to them, see if I can get them to come up with some more targeted questions. I apologise for my affronted comment, but in general I do believe PH needs to be more welcoming to new members than going with the tired old 'lmgtfy' line.
I agree that that would be the ideal, but I daresay it would be the same on any forum. What might be the result if I went on an equestrian forum and said I had been given a horse, how do I ride it?Meganbethany said:
Yep I tried that but I don't understand it no need to be funny about it
I find that Youtube videos often provide some useful advice on cameras and various other tech gizmos that I've used over the years, I note that there are several hundred videos uploaded using the search term "Leica r4" which may be very helpful for you. Link is https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=%22le...Hope this helps

I too thought the OP got an unfair response and I'm sorry to see they have deleted their response and, presumably, gone away to stare at their incomprehensible gift. My question 'How interested in photography are you and how badly do you want to learn?' was entirely genuine, to establish a starting point, and if she answers it we can go from there.I suggest we reset and start again (or she will be no further forward), and perhaps my colleagues here can do the same and try to put themselves in the OPs position.
