My mother would like a new camera. Something easy to use that takes good photos.
Previously she had some Panasonic thing with a decent zoom and a touch screen.
I am erring on the side of getting her another touch screen one as they seem easier to use. But what do I get?
The photographer in me wants to get her a 1inch sensor jobby. But really most are too expensive and all the extra pro features utterly wasted. Really, it wants to have an auto mode and a movie mode. That's it. Would probably avoid anything with ridiculously large zooms (some Canon cameras have 40x! In a pocket camera!).
Reviews seem to place Canon, Sony and Panasonic in top spots. Curiously absent...Nikon, Olympus.
I guess another Panasonic would be the best bet given the familiarity. But Canon, for me, have always had easy to use UIs. Sony.....Ermmm maybe not?
Not sure on budget. I doubt much beyond £200.

If she's used the Panasonic interface before then I'd say that if everything else is more or less equal, go for it.
I have a DMC TZ50. I have recently bought a G7 and the similar dials etc are a bonus as I normally take both with me when going out on a shoot.
That said, I suppose you learn new ways soon enough, but it can be a bit of an effort.

Had a look in Curry's today. They don't have a great selection mind. They had the TZ60 which looked nice so will see how cheaply I can get one of those.
The dial on the top had a few too many modes mind. But she'll learn (green blob!)
They did have a Sony WX350 though which seemed good as well. Has a mode dial but the options are limited to 2 automatic modes, Programme, landscape sweep and movie. So quite fool proof on that front.
They also had the canon something720. Had a 40x zoom on the front, but too expensive.
Will get out to John Lewis at some point as they have better selections.
