That my good lady is going to allow me to add a DJI Mavic to my assortment of cameras/video equipment. smile As I am weeks away from finally getting my Green light today start earning from these "toys" I'm rather excited. The Matrice looks like it's going to be the way forward but as a new start business it'll be a future purchase once I get a grip on where we're going. Onwards and upwards folks. thumbup

Have fun with it. We just had a local Meetup for drone users - show and tell included a Mavic, a moderately high end custom build, and a Typhoon H. Now waiting for better weather so we can stand in a field.

I'd strongly recommend (if you haven't already) getting a cheap Hubsan from Amazon to learn the basics and get used to unassisted handling. They're only a few quid and easily repairable - and the experience will hopefully save you from 'first day crash' syndrome. Whilst all of the modern kit now has amazing smart modes, understanding what the machine is actually doing can really help.

The Matrice is a seriously expensive bit of kit, it'll be interesting to see if it gets take up from high-end users. Depending on the configuration, there are more cost effective camera platforms from DJI (and other manufacturers).

I went down the Syma x5c route to begin with. I'm now using an Inspire 1 and it'll be the main tool once I get the ok from the CAA. smile

ONe of the guys I work with took delivery of the new mavic 2 weeks ago and it's already back at mavic hq. They are doing a warranty repair on the flight control board as it was drifting rather than hovering from its first flight.

He had a couple of instances where it would detect a fault in flight, stop responding to control and drift into the nearest wall.

Not a great start but they reckon he'll have it back in a week.

Looks like a great bit of kit but it's knocked his happiness with it, especially after laying out £1400

I'm quite surprised you haven't gone for a P4 Pro - if you're staying in the DJI fold, it's a light-year ahead of the Inspire 1, and significantly better than the Mavic for photography.

The P4 wasn't out when we bought the Inspire, we're at the point now of needing to upgrade/update the Inspire but in the meantime I just fancy having a small, pocket sized drone for everyday use. I'm going to be climbing Stac Polliaidh and possibly Suilven this year so size will be an issue.

Makes sense. DJI aren't known for a good upgrade path - they make you start from scratch with each new model. In comparison Yuneec are currently doing full hardware upgrades of their 2015 H920 model to the latest flight controller and base station for free. It takes a micro four thirds camera with interchangeable lenses - a slightly warmed over GH4. Far too big for your purposes, but it's good to see that people who invested a few grand in a drone aren't being left in the cold.

Well, I'm very pleased with the performance of the Mavic. thumbup All I have to do now is find some time to become comfortable using it. Apart from having to focus it on screen and the fact that the main button on the Iphone is under the clip that holds it onto the controller, It's a very good drone. It'll keep me amused untill an Inspire2 is ordered in the future.biggrin

Some strange blotchiness at the beginning scenes - did you have some dirt or something on the camera lens?

All my own fault, there's a need for reading specs when using an iPhone instead of an iPad. biggrin
