Looking for a Tripod (and head) but not wanting to spend much more than about £70.00 .
Any recommendations?.
Happy to look at used equipment, but not all that much seems to be coming up on Ebay, they are either dirt cheap (which worries me), or too expensive.

To support a 550D with an 18-250 Sigma on it.

What sort of photographs are you looking to take with this set up?

If you just want to lock off a camera indoors you can get away with a relatively flimsy support, whereas outdoors on uneven ground when the wind is blowing requires something a bit more sturdy.

Outdoor work, landscape maybe a few experiments with star trails.
So yes wind is likely

OK, so you don't really need a fancy pan/tilt head, just something to allow you to lock it off securely and positively, but you do want nice sturdy 'sticks' as in something well made which lock properly when you extend them and is bolted together well rather than made with rivets and screws which will loosen and fall out over time.

With your budget, I'd def. look for something second hand like an old Manfrotto or similar. They're built to last.

If you're not going to hike to far with it, err on the side of big and heavy rather than light and compact.

Worth a look:

These would need a head, but are good value for the legs:

Ok thanks, two options I'm considering a the moment then.
The Red Snapper one buying new looks pretty decent. RSt283 comes with a RSH 24 head.

Or on Ebay and local to me is this MT293A4 + MH293A3-RC1 3-way Head

Picked up the Manfrotto, seems reasonably good for the money.
Didn't have a release plate though, so ended up having to Ryder one for another tenner!.
