My daughter wants to make youtube videos on makeup etc. What lighting can I get that is small and compact? She wants a softbox light on a stand. This is not practical, too big and she is only filming with an iphone 5.

Any help please.

The smaller the light source the sharper the shadows, so if you want a flattering look I suggest you stay with (small) softboxes. Plenty of cheap ones on eBay with continuous lamps in them.

I assume the space issue is storage rather than when it's in use? If so, get some of this stuff, or similar-

hang it over something, then shine a light through it. Two or more of those 100w equivalent compact fluorescent bulbs would be good. Ideally you should have a light source either side of the face, failing that a white foamboard reflector for the unlit side.

The more light you can get on the subject the better, and will help to differentiate the videos from the great many others on YouTube. Clear the clutter out of the background too.
