Image recovery software

Does any know of, and a safe source for some free image recovery software?

I was reviewing pics from recent holiday on the camera and due to the Mrs nagging me I accidentally deleted a pic I wanted.
Don't think it will have been overwritten yet. It's on an SD card.

Recuva, although claiming to recover 2gb worth of data for free only worked for 500mb !

Ah OK. Had it on a few old laptops, have an external HD now so not needed, did the job then for the rare file I needed to retrieve.
Surprised at them capping, use a lot of Piriforms stuff, and I've always rated them.
