Old joke I know, but...

Anyway, Rex and I went to the local horse trials today for a bit of a play with the cameras. Full gallery is here: www.pbase.com/baguleys/horse_trials

But here are a few of mine, Rex will no doubt be along shortly with his!!! (and some Bluebell piccies)

Whaddya think?

Great photos. I like number 2 best for the lookin the horses eye (Bloody hell, this looks scarey!) and the horses feet biting in the dirt.

I think horse number 2 requires a random drug test!

Galloping through the bluebells is a great shot, and the rest are all good.

Does anyone else think there's a touch of blue in some of them?

Love number 2 - what an expression

Also galloping through the bluebells is great. I do like this other one from your gallery too.

Just a little blur in the horses' hoofs and hoofs off the ground too give you that feeling of speed.

I think that may be one that ends up on my wall...

Not here, and I have calibrated my monitor - interested if others find this though...

They have been processed from RAW using Rawshooter, and the "Outdoor Normal" setting, which gives them that punch.

The top one is the main culprit, at least to my uncalibrated eyes - try a warm Photo Filter and see if you don't prefer it.
Just a thought

Simpo - I see what you mean now...

and max, the only off we had rex and I were more interested in dragging kids out of the way of some nasty looking hooves... Must say 20D stood up well to being dropped onto the grass in the process...

Hi Bee Jay,

I really like number two, I think you have caught the action really well.

I dont know what kit you have etc. but for this kind of stuff i would use a longer focal length... At 300-400mm with a wide aperture it will flatten the perspective and isolate the horse from the unavoidably cluttered backgrounds. Just something to think about.

I know its not the photo you were after, but I also think a slow shutter panning shot of the horse through the woods (say 1/30th) would have been a great shot!

good stuff all the same!
